What we do for Young Investigators

Professional Development Opportunities

We have several exciting professional development opportunities and social events planned for Young Investigators (YIs), during the 2018 ISER Biennial Meeting in Belfast. All YIs are strongly encouraged to apply for a Travel Fellowship. This prestigious award helps cover the financial costs of traveling to Belfast and is also a great networking opportunity. The deadline for the YI Travel Fellowship application is May 29th, 2018. Follow this link for more information on the travel award application process.

Additionally, all YIs are eligible to compete in the 2018 best poster competition. The best poster winner(s) will not only win cash prizes but will have the opportunity to give a brief three minute talk on their work during a morning session award session. Follow this link for more information on the poster competition.

Lastly, there is a brand-new activity tailored just for ISER’s YIs. This event, “Meet the Experts”, will allow interested YIs to discuss a wide range of topics with ISER’s elite scientists during one of the coffee breaks. If you have suggestions for topics of discussion, or would like to serve as an expert please email Sandra Hammer (shammer@msu.edu).

Social Events

One of the best parts of attending ISER meetings is getting to travel to unique and beautiful parts of the world. The 2018 meeting will be located in stunning Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK. We are currently working on a networking evening for Young Investigators. This will be a great opportunity to meet and connect with fellow ISER YIs as well as explore Belfast. Further information will follow shortly.

Remember to use #ISER2018 in all of your social media outlets when documenting your time in Belfast.

As always, all YIs will have an opportunity to meet each other at the start of the meeting during the welcome reception. Keep an ear out for an announcement regarding the meet and greet at the welcome reception!
